[NOT A BUG] Some users not about to see group discussions

Hello,

We recently upgraded from XenForo v2.1.18 (patch 2) to v2.2.1. We then upgraded Social Groups from v2.1.9 to v3.0.1. After the upgrade we noticed that some of our users (including administrators) can't see the discussions/forums inside the groups. Sometimes there is an 'Oops we have run into problems' error message and sometimes the discussions section in a group is just blank. We do not think it is a permissions or node issue but we are a bit stuck. Do you have any ideas please? I have rebuilt all of the cache.

I have rebuilt everything in Social Groups and XenForo here:

admin.php?groups/rebuild
admin.php?tools/rebuild

Is there another rebuild process somewhere we need to use?
 
I have noticed that group forums that have a parent category node do not display from the Discussions link on group pages. I have now removed the parent category nodes (setting them to '(None')). This seems to have solved our problem but is this expected behaviour? Has something changed between v2.1.9 and v3.0.1 that has caused this? We would like to re-introduce our Groups node category if possible.
