When I just use the events start time and deselect the end time it jumps to the Unix default date upon saving. When I later want to set an end date because I have to add it, I would have to click through 47 years with 12 months each = 564 times to get to the current month... 
It should be that the End date if not used always stays at the start date for later modification.
