Fixed Material Icons not showing in Grid

I recognized that the material icons do not display anymore on purpose for responsive layout but that is counter-productive for my layout.

How can I adjust when the material icons are displayed and when not?

If the card too small. It's does not show up. Can you give the case when it's not show?

It seems that you manage that via JavaScript? Why not CSS? I want to customize the break points. You can’t just make break points for the default theme and expect it working with all styles. It does not work with my style. Furthermore it depends on how many cards you have in the grid displayed. Some have more, some have less. Where can I change the break points/behavior?
